A Burlington restaurant that enjoyed a five-year run has closed its doors for the final time.

Studebaker, located in the plaza at Appleby Line and Dundas St. shut down on Feb. 29

A message posted by the operators of Studebaker on a social media site signalled the closure.

“It is with mixed emotions that we announce the permanent closure of Studebaker after an incredible 5-year journey,” the message reads.”We are immensely grateful for your loyal patronage. This decision wasn’t easy, but we close with gratitude for the amazing community that supported us. Our last day of operation was on February 29.”

No reason was given for the closure.

The restaurant opened with great expectations in 2019 noting that it was to be a family-run business and was to be operated by those with extensive experience in the hospitality business.

Menu items included traditional pub and roadhouse fare presented in an upscale, family-friendly atmosphere.

Reaction on social media showed the restaurant was a favourite of many with several people saying they were surprised by the news.

“I am so very sad. A great loss to the Burlington community,” one customer wrote which seemed to sum up the sentiments of many. “A fantastic gastro pub. Great food, great drinks, amazing staff and owners. I loved the beach-themed patio. Everyone loved the desserts. But, I will mostly miss the great owners. The amazing vibe they created.”

The owners have not indicated future plans but said that even though Studebaker is now close, the memories will live on in their hearts.
