Playgrounds and parks are great places to venture in the spring and summer, whether you’re taking the kids, going for a picnic, or even just walking around to get some fresh air. And if you’re someone who likes to swing on a swing, or slide down a slide from time to time then we have some good news.

Exciting changes are coming to the Maplehurst Public School playground (481 Plains Rd. E.) in Burlington.

Proposed improvements of this playground are noted on the city’s website, they include the following: removingexisting playground equipment, removing pea gravel safety surfaces and plastic perimeter curbing, installing concrete perimeter curbs with transition curbs for accessibility, and installing new playground equipment and swings.

Other proposed improvements include, installing an accessible pathway to the playground, swings and the new bench, and the placement of engineered wood fibre safety surfacing at playground and swings.

Back in 2017 and 2018, the City of Burlington conducted a survey, ‘Love My Playground’, in order to get feedback from the public regarding what equipment they want to see at playgrounds throughout Burlington.

The survey revealed that residents wanted to see a spiral slide, and overhead glider, a moving balance beam, a rock wall, an overhead climb, and an elevated moving bridge at the Maplehurst playground.

All of these features will be included when the playground is renewed.

Construction is scheduled for July and August of this year while students and staff are on summer holidays.

In addition to the Maplehurst playground, more improvements are coming to a slew of playgrounds throughout the city, click here for more information.
