Construction delays at a lakefront park will allow the Burlington Food Truck Festival to return this year.

The festival, kicked out of Spencer Smith Park after seven years, will now be held at Burloak Waterfront Park along the border of Burlington and Oakville.

It will take place  July 19, 20 and 21.

Last fall organizers of the festival vowed to leave town after the City of Burlington decided not to renew the event for 2024. Councillors were acting on complaints received by downtown Burlington restaurant operators who had long complained the food trucks were taking away customers during prime summer weekends.

The City urged the festival to move to Burloak Park but organizers initially rejected that plan due to planned construction at the new location.

However, in a recent blog post, Mayor Marianne Meed Ward announced that construction at Burloak Waterfront Park has been put off for one year which has allowed the food truck festival to find a new home.

The website for the festival notes that 30 food trucks will be expected at the new location. Vendors specialize in a variety of foods and will come from across the country. Aside from the food, the event advertises free admission, events for children and performances by local musicians.

Another food truck festival is also tentatively planned for Burlington this year. That one is expected to take place at LaSalle Park from June 21 to 23.
