A new not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free basketball camps to Milton Youth is hosing their first free camp July 9.

The mission of DribbleDreams is to empower young athletes through the love of basketball and promote physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. The organization was started by local youths Ismail Hassan and Saad Asim.

“We believe every child deserves the opportunity to participate in sports and experience the transformative power of basketball, regardless of their socioeconomic background,” said Hassan.

“By removing financial barriers, we aim to create an inclusive environment where all children can develop their skills, foster a passion for the game, and gain confidence both on and off the court.”

The camps are being held every Sunday from July 9 to Aug. 27 at Milton Sports Centre for kids ages 6 to 13. For information, visit here.

“Growing up, basketball has been the best thing that has happened to me. It has allowed me to make friends, build strong relationships, and transformed me into the person I am today,” said Hassan.

“My co-founder Saad and myself wanted to do something to give back to the community. We met through basketball, which allowed us to start and build a strong friendship over the last six years. By starting this initiative, we hope other kids can build similar relationships in our environment and feel empowered to conquer whatever challenges they face throughout life.”

The organization has set up a GoFundMe to help with funding while they await grants they’ve applied for. Additional funding would help cover expenses such as insurance and equipment. And any money that we have left over would be used to provide camp participants with free T-shirts, basketballs, and other basketball gear (backpacks, water bottles, shoes) to take home with them at the end of the summer.
