Halton Hills Mayor concerned over uptick in COVID-19 cases ahead of New Year’s Eve

Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette recently expressed concerns over the new record high of COVID-19 cases in Ontario ahead of New Year’s Eve.

“Please stay within your house/bubble over the holidays, especially New Year’s Eve,” advised Bonnette on Twitter.

According to Bonnette, gathering at a party will result in a $750.00 fine while hosting one will result in a fine in the thousands.

Bonnette encourages residents to report parties to the police hotline at (905) 825-4722.

“There will be no warning,” concluded Bonnette on Twitter.

Prior to Christmas, health officials expressed concerns over a potential uptick in cases as a result of holiday gatherings.

As of Dec. 30, the province has reported 2,923 new cases of COVID-19.

To date, there are a total of 178,831 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario.

Ontarians are reminded to stay home as much as possible and only leave their homes for essential trips.
