Halton police annual report confirms violent crime up in Oakville, Burlington, Milton last year

Violent crime was up 45.8 per cent in Burlington last year, property crime jumped 35.8 per cent in Oakville and vehicle collisions rose by more than 50 per cent in Milton and Halton Hills.

These are some of the shocking revelations in the Halton Regional Police Service’s 2022 Annual Report.

Even when adjusted for population growth, crime was up in 8 of 9 categories when broken down by region.

In District One, Milton and Halton Hills, total crime was up 26.8 per cent, from 3,940 to 4,996. Also:

  • Violent crime was up 19 per cent, from 721 to 858
  • Property crime was up 26.8 per cent, from 2,147 to 2,722
  • Other crime was up 32.1 per cent, from 1,072 to 1,416
  • Reportable motor vehicle collisions rose 52.8 per cent, from 2,032 to 3,105

In District Two, Milton and Halton Hills, total crime was up 30.6 per cent, from 3,714 to 4,850. Also:

  • Violent crime was up 24.1 per cent, from 717 to 890
  • Property crime was up 35.8 per cent, from 2,648 to 3,597
  • Other crime was up four per cent from 349 to 363
  • Reportable motor vehicle collisions rose 27.2 per cent, from 2,117 to 2,692

In District Three, Burlington, total crime was up 35.2 per cent, from 3,754 to 5,076. Also:

  • Violent crime was up 45.8 per cent, from 644 to 939
  • Property crime was up 40.5 per cent, from 2,588 to 3,635
  • Other crime was down 3.8 per cent from 522 to 502
  • Reportable motor vehicle collisions rose 40.1 per cent, from 2,031 to 2,845
