A Hamilton pastor has been arrested and charged following an investigation into allegations of sexual assault.

According to Hamilton Police, last Tuesday (May 31), officers arrested Bruxy Cavey and charged him with sexual assault.

Cavey was the primary teaching pastor at The Meeting House Church and was employed there from 1996. He resigned from his position with the organization earlier this year after a third-party investigation determined that he did in fact engage in an affair with an adult woman for a prolonged period of time.

“The investigator also found that what became a sexual relationship between Bruxy and the Victim, which lasted over an extended period of time, constituted an abuse of Bruxy’s power and authority as a member of the clergy, and amounted to sexual harassment, a statement, posted on social media in March, from The Meeting House’s board chair, Maggie Johns.

Around the same time as he resigned, Cavey also penned a blog post entitled ‘My Confession,’ which confirms the extramarital affair and touts the “bravery” of the woman who came forward.

However since that statement was issued, more allegations have come to light.

The Meeting House Church has its headquarters in Oakville and has remote locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Police believe that there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

If you have any information that you believe could assist investigators regarding this crime, you are asked to contact Detective Constable Jeremy Miller at 905-540-5050 or Detective Sergeant Jennifer Currie at 905-546-4962.

Cavey is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 27, 2022.
