The Baskin-Robbins store at 1011 Upper Middle Rd. in Oakville is undergoing renovations.

From gifting her teachers ice cream treats if she was late to class to owning four stores in Oakville, Mississauga and Milton, the Ice Cream Princess is Baskin-Robbins royalty.

“I grew up in one of my parents many Baskin-Robbins stores,” Sheena Sharma told Insauga.com. “All my friends worked in the store when I was in high school. It was great.”

Sharma is a rare second-generation Baskin-Robbins franchisee, currently owning stores in Oakville, Milton and Mississauga (Meadowvale and Heartland). Over the years, she said her parents have bought and sold more than a dozen locations in the GTA.

“They would see an opportunity, buy a store, renovate it and then flip it for a profit down the road. But we never sold any of our four main stores, they’ve been a constant.”

Sharma said that although they’re retired, she still relies on the wisdom of her dad, Sunny, and mom, Kalpana. “I’d be crazy not to take their advice. They’ve done it all.”

The Sharmas are now Baskin-Robbins’ longest running franchise owners in Canada.

“My parents bought their first store, in Oakville, 34 years ago, when I was born,” said Sharma, who was born and raised in Mississauga.

Of her four stores, three are currently undergoing renovations, a regular occurrence for Baskin-Robbins outlets as they try to stay fresh and current for new customers.

According to Baskin-Robbins, “the remodel features the incorporation of the brand-new Moments Design, unveiled in 2021. This includes the original 31 symbol, infusing the store with a retro feel that resonates with the brand’s rich history, a more spacious environment, showcasing the diverse range of products with reorganized freezers and customer-friendly design.”

As for her future, Sharma sees no reason to change a good thing.

“I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. I love Baskin-Robbins and I love doing what I do.”
