It’s more than just bacon & eggs: It’s about family

Many businesses will claim they treat their employees as family, but not all of them manage to follow through on that promise like Pür & Simple does.

In fact, for the major Canadian breakfast and brunch franchise, their familial attitude to their many employees and franchise partners is one of the key reasons for their success – as well as their huge menu of sweet and savoury dishes, of course!

With so many franchise partners, it’s quite a big family at Pür & Simple – just ask Mauricio, Saki, and Priyanka & Harman, who operate Pür & Simple restaurants in Oakville, Etobicoke and Newmarket, respectively.

Q: How did you get started with Pür & Simple?

Mauricio: Before Pür & Simple I used to own a UPS store in Burlington. A customer came in and printed some menus, and I looked at the menus and was very impressed. He said he just opened in the next plaza, this concept called Pür & Simple. This was its first location in Ontario. Before I came to Canada I used to own restaurants, so that’s my background.

So I started to talk to the owner Mansoor, he was very open. The next day I sent an email to their head office and they replied right back, and we opened a location in Oakville about a year later. That was in February 2020.

Saki: We moved here from the UK ten years ago. I was at a crossroads with my career where I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to go, but I knew I wanted to do something different. We were actually heading to New York when we stumbled across this breakfast place in Burlington. Me and my family decided to stop there and have brunch, and to our surprise, it was the closest thing we found that tasted like home.

That’s how we stumbled across Pür & Simple. We decided “You know what, we’re going to look into this,” and that’s when we decided we were going to be investing into this brand. We opened up in September 2020 at Sherway Gardens.

Priyanka: It was during COVID, we [Harman and I] were sitting at home and we decided to do something else, because professionally I was a licenced hairdresser, but we were opening and closing for months and years during the pandemic.

We went to the Oakville Pür & Simple location, and we really liked the concept, the food, the preparation, the outlook and everything. Then we tried other locations as well, we met the owners and we talked to them about the franchise, and we got really positive feedback from them. That was the start for us.

Q: What’s the culture like at Pür & Simple, and what made you realize you wanted to stay?

Mauricio: The team at Pür & Simple is so, so dedicated to the customer, and customer service. The customer is the most important thing. The food is important, everything is important but at the end, it’s mainly that the customer has to have the best experience as soon as they walk into the restaurant. For me that’s the most important thing.

Saki: It’s about the team, everything is about the team. The minute you walk through that door, it’s not about whether you’re a host, server, dishwasher, juicer, cook, or the owner. It doesn’t matter what position you’re in, we’re all equal. When you walk in, the culture is all about teamwork. I know everybody’s name. It’s about family, even your team is your family.

Harman: We’re very multicultural, we have all sorts of communities here in the Newmarket area. We’ve had really good experiences with customer service, with customers coming from cities all around Newmarket as well. We have such a good breakfast brand here, and everybody likes the food.

Priyanka: The head office people are amazing, very friendly and caring. I feel like they’re family – I never feel like someone is just training me or just teaching me something. They are such amazing people, very good teamwork.

Q: What’s your favourite dish on the menu?

Mauricio: The Santa Fe: Eggs Benedict with black beans, peppers & corn blend, avocado, red onions, tomatoes, cheddar and Sriracha.

Priyanka: The Philly Sandwich: Steak, mushrooms, sauteed red onions, provolone and fine herb mayonnaise, served on a brioche bun.

Pür & Simple is always looking for more franchise partners to join their family as the brand continues to expand throughout Canada and into the U.S. market as well.
