A tow truck operator has been critically injured while cleaning up a crash in Milton early Thursday.

“The heavy tows that were on scene were removing the rollover truck from the ditch and in doing so, something happened, and I don’t know exactly what happened but one of the operators that was operating the heavy tow equipment was injured in the recovery initiative,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

The transport truck was in the ditch along the eastbound Hwy. 401 near Guelph Line.

The initial crash took place around 3 a.m., blocking the right lane.

The truck driver has been charged with careless driving “as a result of that incident,” said Schmidt.

The man was transported to a Toronto trauma centre by Ornge air ambulance.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
