Two new post-secondary institutions opening next year in Milton will be a boon to the community according to Milton Mayor Gord Krantz.

“This exciting partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College opens doors of opportunity for our local youth, providing them with the chance to pursue their higher education aspirations right here in Milton,” he said.

“Beyond the educational benefits, the presence of these institutions realizes our Milton Education Village vision and promises to energize our local economy, creating new prospects for businesses and residents alike.”

Krantz believes the educational programs offered by these institutions will enhance the skill sets of the local workforce, empowering residents to tap into emerging job opportunities and contribute to the flourishing knowledge economy.

This synergy between academia and local industry will cultivate a stronger, more resilient workforce, thereby amplifying the capacity for sustainable growth and development in our municipality.

“We are excited to welcome our first Laurier Milton students in fall 2024,” said Deborah MacLatchy, the school’s president and vice-chancellor.

“Local and commuter students will now have access to the exceptional Laurier learning experience, with research and co-op opportunities in computer science and psychology degree programs.”

This collaboration heralds a significant advance in achieving the long-term Milton Education Village vision, and promises multifaceted benefits for the community at large. It bolsters our commitment to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community, reinforcing our municipality’s appeal as a desirable place to live, work, and study.

“We are committed to supporting social and economic prosperity in Milton with relevant, accessible, career-focused programming to address local workforce needs,” said Conestoga president John Tibbits.

“Our Parkhill location will welcome students in January and expansion continues next spring with the opening of the Conestoga Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Education on Steeles Avenue.”
