New costco application for Oakville

After years, perhaps even decades, of rumours, speculation and wishful thinking, it appears Oakville may finally be getting a Costco of its own.

At this point, there are just a few breadcrumbs pointing to a potential site at 3471 Wyecroft Rd., southeast of the QEW/Burloak Dr. intersection, on the border of Burlington.

The Town of Oakville’s development map shows an application having been filed last week (Feb. 9) for a site described as “Costco Oakville”.

The application is so new that the link for more information takes you to a page that doesn’t exist yet.

Inhalton.com has reached out to the Town of Oakville planning department for more information but had not received a reply before publication.

If it’s true, it will mean Oakville residents will no longer have to drive to Mississauga (Dundas St./Winston Churchhill Blvd.) or Burlington (Brant St./QEW) to find their nearest Costco.

Over the past couple of years, there’s often been a sly wink-and-a-nod when the topic of whether a Costco is coming to that site is brought up. No officials would ever go on the record confirming it, but the general consensus has been, “something is happening”.

The commercial plaza on Wyecroft is currently home to retail outlets like Home Depot, Crunch Fitness, and Longos.

A members-only warehouse, Costco sells a huge variety of items at discount prices, including bulk groceries, electronics, computers, furniture, outdoor living, jewellery, clothing and more.
