An arrest has been made following a recent incident of assault in Burlington.

On Sunday, July 5, police say an 18 year old woman was walking along Palladium Way and noticed a grey minivan slowly drive past her multiple times.

“As the female continued walking she came up to a forested area when she was suddenly grabbed from behind,” police said.

“The accused male proceeded to place one hand over her mouth preventing her from screaming and then grabbed her around the waist and attempted to drag the female into the forested area.  The female struggled with him causing them both to fall to the ground.”

Police say the victim was then able to escape and scream for help, causing the male to run back to his parked grey minivan.

The victim took a cellphone video of the male driving away at high speed, then called 911 and provided details of the incident as well as the vehicle’s license plate.

After an investigation from the Burlington and Oakville Criminal Investigation Bureaus, the suspect was arrested outside of his Oakville home without incident.

41 year old Tanos El-Khoury has been charged with assault and forcible confinement.

El-Khoury was held for a bail hearing in Milton on July 6.
