Oakville Teen Making Waves in Miami
An Oakville teen will be making big waves in Miami very soon.
James Juhasz, 19, will be partaking in his first ever World Sailing Cup (an annual series for professional sailors) in Miami.
The World Sailing Cup hosts sailors from about 30 different countries around the world. It is an event that is comparable to the Olympics or World Championships for its competitiveness.
The Miami event is the second of four stops on the tour.
Other stops on this year’s (2018-2019) World Cup tour include Enoshima, Japan (September, 2018), Genoa, Italy (April, 2019), and Marseilles France (June, 2019). Miami is the only city that has been a permanent stop on the tour for the past five years.
The week-long event in Coconut Grove, Miami will begin tomorrow (Jan. 27) at the US Sailing Center.
Juhasz will be sailing in the Laser category.
The teen also has his eyes set on the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
“I am excited to partake in my first World Cup in Miami,” Juhasz said in a recent press release.
“Competing amongst the best will be a great learning opportunity as I forge my way towards the 2024 Olympics.
Last year, the World Championships were televised by 95 different broadcasters and reached over 15 million viewers worldwide.
