Ottawa man charged in double murder of Mississauga teens

OPP announce the arrest of an Ottawa man in connection with the murders of two Mississauga teens last week in Pembroke.

A 21-year-old Ottawa man is facing two charges of first-degree murder in the Victoria Day long weekend shooting deaths of a pair of 16-year-old Mississauga boys northwest of the Canadian capital.

OPP announced at a news conference this afternoon (May 31) that the suspect was arrested without incident on Tuesday. He was subsequently charged in the double homicide that took place in the early morning hours of May 22 in Pembroke, situated on the Ottawa River along the Ontario-Quebec border.

Noah Nathaniel Annis and Alando Omario Davidson, both 16 and from Mississauga, died from gunshot injuries, post-mortems concluded.

Police say they believe the victims were targeted.

According to investigators, a third 16-year-old boy from Mississauga suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting. He remains under medical care.

Zacharie Robert Lamoureux, 21, of Ottawa, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and attempt to commit murder using a firearm.

He appeared in Pembroke court today (May 31) and was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on June 21.

Police said they wouldn’t speculate on possible additional charges or any potential additional suspects in the case.

Police officers were called to a Pembroke home shortly before 3 a.m. on May 22 where they found two people suffering from life-threatening gunshot injuries.

One of the boys died in hospital a short time later while the other survived.

Another male teen was subsequently located and pronounced dead near the initial scene.

OPP have not said whether investigators have information about the victims’ possible connections or why the three Mississauga teens were in Pembroke.

Speaking at Wednesday afternoon’s news conference, OPP Det. Insp. Jennifer Patton said the double murder has been a shock “not only to the victims’ families, but to everyone in Pembroke.”

She appealed to the public for help.

“While we have arrested one person, the investigation is far from over. Now is the time for witnesses to come forward,” she said.
