Pickering Fire going door to door for ‘FireSafe’ campaign

Pickering Fire Services is going door-to-door once again for its ‘FireSafe Pickering’ fire education campaign.
The five-week campaign, formerly called the ‘Get Real Pickering’ campaign, launched Monday and focuses on educating residents about fire safety and fire-related issues in the community.
Select households will receive a visit from Pickering firefighters who will be available to discuss the reality of fire in the community and answer fire-related questions.
“Eighty-seven per cent of structure fires occur in residential buildings,” said Fire Chief Steve Boyd. “This campaign gives us the opportunity to engage with residents and have a meaningful discussion around the importance of fire prevention, working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, escape planning, and fire safety. By working together and continuing to have these conversations, we can keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from fire.”
Boyd hopes that through education, awareness, and teamwork, fire-related fatalities, injuries, and property damage can be reduced throughout the City.
