Santa Claus is returning to Oakville.

The jolly old elf will make his return on Saturday, Nov. 21 for a six block parade along downtown streets.

As towns and cities across Ontario have been reluctant for Santa to take part in parades this year because of COVID-19, The Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area (DOBIA) is welcoming him back as part of a larger downtown Christmas campaign.

Yesterday, Oakville council approved a $200,000 loan to the DOBIA to be used for the purchase of Christmas decorations. Council, which oversees local business improvement associations, also voted to allow the DOBIA to exceed its budget by the loan amount.

“(They are doing this) to remind the boys and girls that Santa has not forgotten about them even though COVID has made them worry about that,” said Mayor Rob Burton.

The parade will start at 6 p.m. and more details about downtown Christmas events will be unveiled in the weeks ahead.
