The Oshawa Generals are heading home with a chance to clinch their first-round playoff series after a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win on the road against the Barrie Colts Thursday but boy, they never make it easy.

A slow start to the regular season had the Oshawa Generals on the playoff bubble at Christmas. A less-than-stellar playoff opener had the team’s 12-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-2 home ice loss in game one to the eighth-seeded Colts. And last night’s opening 20 minutes didn’t exactly inspire confidence, with the club outshot 13-9 and in an 0-2 hole before the opening stanza was complete.

Cue the comeback.

The two sides traded goals in the second period before Oshawa exploded in a dominant third, peppering Barrie netminder Sam Hillebrandt with 17 shots to send the game to overtime, with Connor Lockhart getting the equalizer after a goalie pulled, two-man advantage mad scramble in front of the net with 17 seconds remaining.

Sophomore star Beckett Sennecke was the hero in overtime, scoring the winner on a breakaway, finishing with a backhand over a sprawling Hillebrandt – who faced 56 shots in the game – to give Oshawa the hammer heading home for game five tonight at the Tribute Centre.

Sennecke and Lockhart both had a goal and an assist in this one, with Dylan Roobroeck (who also won a decision in a spirited tussle at the end of the second) and Cal Ritchie each contributing a pair of assists. Luca D’Amato and Zachary Sandhu scored the other Oshawa goals while Barrie captain Beau Jelsma scored twice for the Colts.
