The three people killed in a Brampton house fire last week have been identified.

The intense blaze consumed a home on Van Kirk Drive near McLaughlin Road on Thursday, March 7. Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a 911 call about a possible explosion.

Last week, police said human remains had been discovered but did not give further details.

Police now say three people died in the fire.

Rajiv Warikoo, 51, Shilpa Kotha, 47, and Mahek Warikoo, 16, died in the blaze, Peel Regional Police said in a press release today (March 15). All three people lived at the home before the fire,  police said.

The discovery was made after crews extinguished the fire and the Fire Marshal was called in to investigate, police said. While examining the scene, investigators located what was believed to be human remains in the destroyed house.

The circumstances surrounding the house fire remain the focus of an active investigation, and anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) is urged to contact homicide detectives at 905-453-2121 extension 3205.
