A tractor protest is set to impair traffic on Highway 12 in Whitby today.

According to Durham Police, the protest will begin in the village of Manilla, part of Brock Township. It’ll then head south down Highway 12 to Dundas Road in Whitby. This path will bring it through several north Durham communities.

The protest will reach Dundas Street in Whitby around 11:30 a.m. then proceed west through Ajax to Whites Road in Pickering.

Police expect significant delays to the protest and have advised travellers to avoid these major routes for the time being. They said more information will be released as it becomes available.

The protest appears to be an “Axe the Tax” rally against the federal government’s carbon levy.
