Shoppers who frequented a popular used bookstore located beside a Starbucks on Brant Street have taken to social media to express their disappointment at the news that the store is closing down in the not-too-distant future.

The Book Nook, a used bookstore known for its vast collection of fiction and non-fiction titles, recently announced that this will be its last month in business.

The store is offering a 50 per cent off sale from now until Jan. 31.

The store, which also carries remainders, rare books and special editions, was known for offering a book exchange service that allowed shoppers to purchase books for less and get store credit should they return the title.

The store said books not from The Book Nook were also sometimes accepted for credit.

On the Burlington subreddit, readers lamented the upcoming closure.

“Heh. I love that place, and have for years. I can’t afford to shop at most of the places in our downtown, and while it’s fine that others can, pushing out places like Book Nook is sad,” one user wrote.

“Again, not sure of the reason, just making assumptions.”

Others also said they’d miss the store.

“I will miss this place so much. It was the first shop I went to when I moved to Burlington and it has been a comfort to me through so many hard times,” another user wrote on The Book Nook’s Facebook page.
